White Trash
It's that time of year again! Time to break out The Muppet Christmas Carol and Elf. Time to play Phase 10 around the kitchen table. Time to make a giant pot of chili and polish off some ice cold Coca-Colas from the walk-out cooler (AKA, the porch).
And it's also time to fill the kitchen, the whole neighborhood, really, with trash. White trash, that is. Each year, we mix up a bunch of this stuff and fill a couple dozen baggies to give out to friends and neighbors. Last night was our first White Trash session, and it went over pretty well. Don't feel badly if you have to add more nuts, or leave out the M&Ms (my husband thinks they make it too sweet) or replace them with Reese's Pieces or some other yummy thing. So addictive!
White Trash
3 1/2 cups of Cheerios
3 cups Rice Chex
3 cups Corn Chex
1 cup salted peanuts
1 1/2 cup of broken pretzel pieces
1 pound of M&Ms and/or Reese's Pieces (to make a total of one pound)
22 oz white confectioner's coating
- Mix all of the dry stuff together.
- Melt the coating in a double-boiler or very, very carefully on low on a stovetop, stirring constantly until coating is melted and smooth.
- When it's completely melted, stir it gently but thoroughly into the dry ingredients until everything is completely covered.
- Spread the whole thing on wax paper and cool.
- Break into chunks and store in baggies.
- Devour the 25 cups this recipe yields.
- Make more.
YUM!
This has absolutely no calories if you eat it while standing.
Enjoy.
